INTRO: This is where you get a chance to see some of the scenes that weren't included in the movie.  As to why they weren't included, you'll just have to wait till the Book of the Movie comes out.

One of my favorite scenes was a flashback titled "Beth gets a gun." This is the Storyboarded Sequence by Jay Berkowitz, with rehearsal photos (as an Animated Gif) and the actual script pages. Since it didn't make it into the final cut of the movie, I can reveal it here.  I still want to keep what happens in the actual "Blood Kiss" that we shot a bit of a mystery. After all, what's the point of seeing a movie if you can read all about it on the web?

FLASHBACK:

INT. BETH'S LIVING ROOM - ABOUT A YEAR AGO

Katie walks in.  She is carrying three shopping bags from women's clothing stores.  One is from a Lingerie store.  She looks about and not seeing Beth plops down on the couch.

Beth appears in the doorway of her bedroom holding a 9 MM. gun.  Katie sees it, screams and flies over the back of the couch.  Beth shakes her head and comes over to her. Katie has her head covered.  Beth pulls her up and forces her to look at her face.  Katie takes the gun and pushes it away from her.  They lean against the back of the couch and they both look out away from each other.

KATIE

What is your problem?

BETH

It was a gift.  That cop liked the story I did on him and uhm...

KATIE

He wanted you.

BETH

He's the same age as my Father.

KATIE

He is cute.

BETH

He looks like my Father.

KATIE

I guess that would be weird.

(looking at Beth)

You going to keep it?

BETH

It might come in use one day.

KATIE

Not with you.

BETH

Pardon me?

KATIE

Violent people should not have guns.

BETH

You're my best friend.  How dare you call me violent?

KATIE

Put the gun down and I'll prove it.

Beth looks at her, then nods.  She gets up and walks into the bedroom.

INT. BETH'S BEDROOM - A YEAR AGO

Beth puts the gun into a black case and places it in her closet.

BETH

(loud enough for Katie to hear)

I'm just doing this to prove you wrong.

INT. BETH'S LIVING ROOM - A YEAR AGO

Beth walks back into the room and Katie is sitting up on her knees beside the back of the couch.  She takes Beth's hand and pulls her down to her.  Beth gives her a warm  smile.

KATIE

Just don't hurt me too bad.

BETH

You're my best friend.  I could never hurt you.

KATIE

Oh, please.  You'd hurt anybody to get what you want.  What'd you do to get that gun?

BETH

What?

KATIE

I don't think he gave you that gun.  Nobody has ever given you a present in any story, well.   You usually write these stories that slam and attack other people's lives.  You probably blackmailed that cop into leaving out something he did in the story-

BETH

He made a pass at me.  I got it on tape.  It is a nice gun though.  I always wanted one.  He cleared it through uhm, what do you call that?  Not that I have a record.

Katie coughs loudly.

BETH

A couple of bar fights is not a record.  You know I didn't start any of those.  Men can't stand a strong woman.

Katie shakes her head.

KATIE

One of these days I'm not going to be around to bail your dumb ass out of-

BETH

Hey, at least I'm not the one who is sleeping with some guy I can't stand just cause he's the only one who can stand the tramp way I act.  Always poking your tits out at some guy thinking he wants you.  I know hookers who wear more clothes than you do.

Beth grabs her arms.

BETH

If you think.  If you want to compare my life to yours, Katie, I would win hands down.

Katie winces because Beth is holding her arms tight.  Beth sees the tears come up in Katie's eyes and she lays her head on her shoulder.  She kisses Katie's shoulder, then leans back and holds her chin in Katie's hands.

BETH

I'm sorry, Honey.

She kisses her softly on the lips.  Katie jerks back from her touch.  Beth just sits there.  Katie turns around, and doesn't look at her.

KATIE

Uhm.

(slowly gaining her voice)

Well, I think, that, that I, well, I proved my point about being,  you being a violent person.

Beth puts her hands on her shoulder.  Katie jerks away from her.

KATIE

I don't like that.

BETH

What?

KATIE

It's just.  It just makes me feel weird.  You know what Ed would say if he saw you touching me?

BETH

Yeah, hold on girls, let me get my video camera.  I can sell this puppy to Hustler.

Beth isn't sure she hears a sound, but then the sound comes a little louder.  Katie is laughing.  Katie turns to her.  Beth smiles.

BETH

Are we okay?  I mean, you put yourself out there just to prove a point, girl.  So, I have a little temper.

Katie stops laughing.  Beth takes her hand, then lets it go.

BETH

I have been your friend since we saw each other that day in kindergarten.

KATIE

And you stole my Barbie doll.

BETH

I gave it back.

KATIE

The head was missing.

BETH

Katie.

Katie waits for her.

BETH

You know I would never hurt you.  I've been with you your whole life.  And yes, I may be a selfish bitch.  I'll deny I said it if you ever tell anyone.

Katie smiles.

BETH

But you know I would never hurt you.

KATIE

I know.

BETH

I'm keeping the gun.

KATIE

I know that too.
